Nokia sells “well over” 1m Windows Phones, still makes “1bn loss

Nokia has announced its Q4 2011 financial results, and the large news is Windows Phone sales: “well over 1 million Lumia devices to date” the Finnish company claims. Still, strong out-the-gate demand for the Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 weren’t enough to show Nokia’s ailing books around: the corporate recorded a “954m (.25bn) profit loss in Q4 2011, bringing the ultimate 2011 tally to a “1.073bn (.4bn) loss, down 43-percent year-on-year. Overall sales of devices were down 29-percent year-on-year, with “smart device” shipments right down to 19.6m units from 28.6m a year ago.
